Owl Mountains in southwest Poland have a cool mountain climate, with summers averaging 60°F (16°C) perfect for hiking among the granite rock formations, and snowy winters dropping to 20°F (-7°C) ideal for cross-country skiing. The region is famous for the underground tunnels of Project Riese, a Nazi-built complex you can tour in the eastern part near Walim, while the western area around Srebrna Góra offers well-marked trails to viewpoints like Wielka Sowa, the highest peak. Come in July for wildflower-filled meadows, or in January for snow-covered routes and fewer crowds in the tunnels.
