      Crater Lake sits in southern Oregon, formed by a collapsed volcano 7,700 years ago, famous for its incredibly clear blue water-the deepest lake in the US at 1,949 feet. Summers are mild, with July highs around 70 degrees F (21 C), perfect for hiking the 33-mile Rim Drive or taking a boat tour to Wizard Island. Winters bring heavy snow (over 40 feet annually) and temperatures below freezing, but you can still visit for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing on the rim.
