Long Beach Island is an 18-mile barrier island off New Jersey's coast, famous for its wide beaches and excellent surfing at spots like Ship Bottom and Surf City. Summers are warm, often hitting 85°F (29°C), perfect for swimming in the Atlantic or fishing off the Barnegat Light pier, while winters drop to 30°F (-1°C) and bring quieter days for birdwatching at the Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge. In July and August, you can catch live cover bands at the Taylor Avenue Beach Bar, but if you visit in May or September, you'll find cheaper rentals and smaller crowds.
